Despite Bianchi’s intentions, Angelici decided to terminate his contract. The third period of the winningest coach in Boca’s history has finished.

After the defeat against Estudiantes, the third in four matches, Carlos Bianchi said that he had the power to reverse the situation. This morning, in a meeting with Daniel Angelici, Boca Juniors’ president, the coach requested at least one more game leading the team. At first, Angelici accepted, but in the afternoon, before the training, Bianchi was fired.

Since 2013, when Bianchi came to power for the third time, Boca’s performance was irregular. The best moments were in the Libertadores Cup 2013 and the last part of the Final Tournament 2014, always with Juan Román Riquelme as an emblem. The winningest coach in the club’s history was never liked by the leaders, who elected him being forced by the fans.

As Boca’s coach, “El Virrey” won 9 titles, all in his first two periods. The most important victories were against Real Madrid and Milan in the Intercontinental Cup 2000 and 2003, respectively. Over a total of 349 matches, his team beat in 181, tied 97 and lost 71 (61% of accuracy).

Who will be the successor? Rodolfo Arruabarrena, who played in Boca between 1993 and 2000. As coach, he did a good performance in Tigre, with whom was runner up for the Argentininan First Division Tournament in 2012. Then, “El Vasco” trained Nacional de Uruguay, in 2013.
